Council 'shake-up' proposed in Northern Ireland
The number of councils and public bodies in Northern
Ireland could be significantly reduced, local government
minister Ian Pearson has said. Mr Pearson met with
the political parties last week to discuss proposals
for the biggest shake up in local government for
a generation.

Confederation launches 2004 Yearbook and Diary in
Monaghan
The Confederation of European Councillors announced
the appointment of a new Partnership Manager at
the launch of its annual Yearbook and Diary at the
Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan on Saturday, 17th January.

The elections for the European Parliament and the
Republic of Ireland's local elections will take
place on June 11th 2004.

Annual Conference of the Local Authority Members
Association (LAMA) at the West County Hotel on 15th
and 16th April 2004
The conference will focus on Education, Health and

Launch of Yearbook/Diary and the announcement of
the new Partnership Manager at the Hillgrove Hotel,
Monaghan on Saturday, 17th January 2004.
Mr. Noel Dempsey TD (Minister for Education and
Science) and Mr. John Ritchie (DOE NI) were guest
speakers at the January launch of the annual yearbook
and diary. Mr. John Devaney was also unveiled as
the new CEC Partnership Manager.
