John Connor
Roscommon County Council
John was first elected as a Fine Gael
councillor in Roscommon in 1985, and is a
former member of Dail Eireann and Seanad
Eireann. As well as being the county rep
on LAMA, he is also the current president
of the Irish United Nations Association.
He serves on his council’s Planning
Special Policy Committee. As the present
chairman, he would like to see the CEC become
a lead agency in North-South and
European-wide councillor cooperation. |

Secretary:
Ronnie Ferguson
Ards Borough Council
Ronnie is an Ulster Unionist
councillor who has served as Secretary
of the Confederation since its establishment
in 1999, and is also a long-serving Secretary
of the National Association of Councillors
in Northern Ireland. He is a former Mayor
of Ards, and is a director on numerous
companies as well as being Chairman of
the Kingdoms of Down and the Ards Football
Club. He also serves as an Assembly Researcher.
Ronnie hopes that the work of the CEC
is the start of better things to come,
and that it can be built on and continued
into the future. |

Vice
Chairman: Hubert Nicholl
Ballymena Borough Council
Hubert served as mayor of Ballymena
in 2002/03, and is also a Researcher for
the NI Assembly. He is a board member
for various bodies, including the NI Drainage
Council, INTERREG II and the Ballymena
Local Strategic Partnership, and is a
director with the Causeway Coast and Glens
Heritage Trust.
Hubert hopes that the Confederation will
bring together councillors right across
the EU for learning about our different
and diverse cultures and that members
will be more aware of what the EU has
to offer. |

Billy
Ireland
Kilkenny County Council
Now in his twenty-sixth year
as a Fine Gael councillor in Kilkenny,
he served as the council chairman in 1988/89,
and is the current Vice Chairman of the
Local Authority Members' Association.
Billy is a member of the Kilkenny Vocational
Education Committee and the Special Policy
Committee on Roads and Transportation.
He is also a director with the Irish Public
Bodies Mutual Assurance. |

Peter
O'Hagan
Lisburn City Council
Peter is an SDLP councillor and
was mayor of Lisburn in 1998-2000. He
is the current treasurer of the National
Association of Councillors NI and is chairman
of the Lough Neagh Partnership. He is
a former chairman of the Lisburn Partnership
and Lisburn City Economic Development.
Peter believes that the Confederation
can flourish as a vibrant organisation,
and hopes that it can develop cooperation
locally, nationally and in European terms. |

Declan Bree
Sligo County and Borough Councils
Councillor Bree represents the Labour
party on both local councils in Sligo and
has just come off the back of a term as
mayor of Sligo Borough.
He also served as
a member of Dail Eireann for Sligo-Leitrim
from 1992 to 1997.
Declan is a
representative on the General Council of
County Councils and the Local Authority
Members Association, and is a member of
the Sligo County Enterprise Board. |

Michael Cahill
Kerry County Council
Coopted to the council in 1990, Michael
Cahill is a Fianna Fail representative and
is the county rep on LAMA. He also holds
membership of the South West Regional
Authority and Assembly, Land Registry
Board, Housing SPC, Rural Water Committee,
Glenbeigh Community Council Ltd and the
Cahirciveeen ESB Scheme.
Michael hopes
that the CEC will prove to be a proactive
organisation, promoting worthwhile
North-South schemes. |

Senator
James Bannon
Longford County Council
A farmer and auctioneer from
Legan Co. Longford, James was elected
to Seanad Eireann in 2002, and is the
party's senate spokesman on the Environment
and Local Government. He was first elected
to Longford County Council in 1995, and
was the youngest ever Chairman in 1991/92.
He has been a LAMA executive member since
1991 and is the current General Secretary.
James can see the CEC expanding within
the EU, while continuing to promote best
practice within councils and good relationships
between members. |

Niall Dennehy
Clonmel Borough Council A self employed consultant and a Fianna
Fail member of Clonmel Borough Council
since 1994, Niall is a new representative
on the Local Authority Members’
Association.
A former mayor of Clonmel,
he is also a member of the Association of
Municipal Authorities of Ireland, the
Tipperary Joint Libraries Committee and
Tipperary Development Board.
Cllr Dennehy
hopes to see the Confederation improving
councillor relations in our jurisdictions. |

Rainsford Hendy
Kildare County Council Cllr Hendy is now in his fourteenth year
on the council as a Fine Gael
representative, and in another terms as
the Kildare rep on LAMA.
A member of the
Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly, he
is also chairman of the local SPC and the
Mid East Regional Authority.
He would
like to see the Confederation playing a
role in promoting better understanding in
local government throughout these islands. |

Norman
Hillis
Coleraine Borough Council
Norman is an Ulster Unionist
councillor and has served as mayor of
Coleraine in 1999/2000 and a number of
committees. He was also elected to the
Northern Ireland Assembly in 2003. Norman
is the proprietor of a clothes, drapers
and giftware shop in Portrush and is also
a member of the town's Chamber of Commerce.
Norman feels that councillors, both North
and South, have much to learn from each
other, and from our European counterparts.

Cait
Keane
South Dublin County Council
Cait is originally from Galway,
but now sits at a Progressive Democrat
councillor with South Dublin CC, where
she is chairperson of the Environmental
SPC. An executive member of LAMA, she
also serves on the VEC as well as the
Library Board of NUI Galway. As well as
being a public representative, Cait is
also a teacher and a schools advisor.
Cait hopes that the CEC can work in the
facilitation and cooperation on joint
projects at local, national and European
level, and highlights networking, good
working relationships, and opening doors
with accession countries. |

Jim
McBriar
Ards Borough Council
From Comber Co. Down, Jim is
the current mayor of Ards Borough Council
and has served the local community since
the formation of that council in 1973.
It is twenty years since he last held
the mayor's office, and the retired farmer
is a well-established member of the Alliance
Party. He was deputy mayor in 2002/03.
He is also the Northern Ireland chairman
for the National Society for Clean Air.
Jim hopes that the Confederation can succeed
in its objectives as a cross border body,
and perhaps can start to expand and develop
as an organisation in a manner that would
be relevant in European terms. |

Maura Maguire Lynch
Cavan County Council
Maura Maguire Lynch has been a Fine Gael
councillor for the Belturbet area since
1999, and follows in her father’s
footsteps as a local politician and a
county rep on the Local Authority Members
Association.
She is a member of the Cavan
Vocational Education Committee and the
local area Environmental, Water and
Sanitary Services Committee. |

Francie
Molloy
Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council
Francie Molloy was elected as
a Sinn Fein councillor to Dungannon and
South Tyrone Council in 1985 and is currently
serving as Chairperson of the Council.
He is a member of the party's National
Executive and and negotiations team.
Elected to the Assembly for Mid Ulster
in 1998 and again in 2003, he was chairperson
of the Finance and Personnel Committee
and also was a member of the Agriculture
and Rural Development Committee.
Francie feels that the Confederation is
an important means of bringing people
together and building on peace and reconciliation,
as well as developing the European perspective. |

Norris
Castlereagh Borough Council
John is a DUP councillor at Castlereagh
where he has held the office of mayor
in 1998/99 and 2002/03, and as deputy
mayor in 1997/98. He has served as chair
with all the council committees. He presently
sits on the Board of Governors for the
South East Education and Library Board,
and is a member of the Castlereagh Enterprise
Park and the Housing Council.
John hopes that the Confederation can
work together as a team and can meet whatever
targets we set for ourselves. |

Kevin Sheahan
Limerick County Council Kevin is the present General Secretary of
the Local Authority Members Association
having previously held the post of joint
PRO. He is also a member of the CEC’s
East-West workgroup and is Vice Chairman
of the Shannon/Foynes Port Authority. He
has been a Fianna Fail councillor since
1985. Cllr Sheahan feels that the CEC
could play a part in promoting trust among
councillors and among communities. |

Josephine
O'Hare
Newry and Mourne District Council
An SDLP member from the Crotlieve
area of Newry and Mourne, Josephine was
the first female chairperson of the council
when elected to office in 1999. She has
been a councillor since 1993, and is the
present chair of the council's Equality
Committee. She is heavily involved in
the local community and youth organisations,
and is a director of the Mourne Heritage
Trust.
Pauline hopes to see the work of CEC expanding
to other EU countries. |
